Things are happening quickly now, too quickly. Garrett has his loan and on January 5th will open the doors at Phipps Dental Practice in Guymon, Oklahoma. It is exciting for him but he has so much to do to get there and open his doors. The previous owner is staying on for a period of time to aid in the transition at Garrett's request. All of the staff is staying on with the exception of one. Guymon appears to be a growing community and I certainly hope that their economy will not feel the impact of the economy. Amarillo seems to have some insulation for the time being and the housing market was on the Today show as the prime location for avoiding the housing market demise.
The other thing that is happening quickly is the advancing of Trent's disease. He is having difficulty with daily living tasks now. He doesn't recognize how to eat a hamburger or what he used to put catchup on or how to eat soup. He can't regulate the water in the shower, use soap, deodorant, or toothpaste. He doesn't remember that he has slept on one side of the bed for 22 years. He insists on folding the clothes with me but rolls his into a ball. He has put his underwear on the outside of his pants and been furious at me when I tried to get him to put them on under his pants. He angers easily with me but is beginning to anger at others, such as the bus driver and Ray at Jan Werner's. He kept trying to leave today and spent most of his day at the entry pacing back and forth.
Our last visit to his psychiatrist, he tweaked his meds a little in hopes of helping with the agitation and anger. I know it is early too make a decision about their effectiveness, but so far I think it missed the mark. The doctor recognizes that it may take increasing his behavior medication as well and told me to call if things weren't better. I'm not going to wait a month this time. I'll probably call at the end of next week if I don't see the decrease we are hoping for.
Our next hurdle approaches on the 15th. On Trent's last bloodwork, they found that his thyroid was low and his PSA was elevated. They started him on synthetic thyroid which is difficult to get Trent to take, only because it is to be taken on an empty stomach in the morning. Trent wakes up in the pantry with his mouth open. I may get the pill in before he eats but he forgets and has something in his mouth before I blink. I'll need to check to see if there's not one that we don't have to take on an empty stomach. This isn't working. The PSA, I know that it is often indicative of prostate issues or cancer. We'll see what the doctor's plans for Trent are and let you know when we know.
As always, I thank you for including us in your prayers.
The only thing not happening quickly is the Lemon Extract Fruit Cake that I didn't get around to until Trent went to bed. It takes 2 1/2 to 3 hours to cook. I have about an hour left before it comes out of the oven. I'll be taking it to the hospital tomorrow. Wish I were sharing it with you as well, it's yummy. I've had the recipe about 28 yrs. now. Twenty eight years sure happened quickly.
