Things Changed on Monday

I plan to keep this short. Monday morning at 7:15 Trent had a grand mal seizure lasting over a minute and a half. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital and he has been there since. Nothing like hearing your husband of 38 years is in end stage Alzheimer's. Medication changes to control behaviors, medication changes to control seizures were settled on and the goal began to find placement in an Alzheimer's unit. Listen carefully, you aren't doing the elderly with Alzheimer's any favors by keeping them at home until you can no longer care for them. Of the units in Amarillo, only 3 would take all stages of Alzheimer's patients and only one has Medicare or Medicaid beds available. Private pay is the only answer and then you go to a nursing home that has Medicaid beds. I can probably pay for my husband in the private pay facility for a year. I've decided to make my decision on placement with what I think is best for today. I have no predictable view of what the future holds for him. My boys are coming to help move their Dad. It will probably be much like a funeral. Please pray for strength that we can gain from one another.
